Bespoke columns give sea front apartments unique look
On the north bank of the Thames Estuary in south east England lays Westcliff-on-sea, an idyllic town that has in recent years attracted commuters to the capital. Gaining planning permission for developing these areas is tough, but on the sea front work starts on a new £13 million luxury development. Anderson Group Ltd. are one of the main contractors on this project and have the task of constructing the concrete shell for the apartments. With a contract value of £3.25 million Anderson Group have a sizable task, with over 14,000 tons of concrete to pour including 700 columns. Over 9 floors there will be 45 units in totals consisting of 2 and 3 bed apartments with the top floor set to accommodate luxury penthouses worth in excess of £1 million each, a secure car park and leisure facility.
PERI’s involvement in the construction was the external and internal walls, and a number of columns that lined the front of the apartments. For the walls TRIO formwork was used with CB and internal platforms allowing access to the formwork for safe and easy pouring. The columns that lined the front of the building were designed at various angles meaning that normal SRS column formwork could only be used for part of them. PERI’s technical team designed bespoke angled column shutters, which were made at the company’s headquarters in Weissenhorn, Germany and shipped over to the site prefabricated ready for assembly.

We were pleased to have chosen PERI’s TRIO formwork for this project, it is simple and easy to use which resulted in faster pouring cycles. The technical back up was excellent when designing the bespoke angled column shutters and we are pleased with the finish it provided and overall look they add to the project.
