PERI’s GRV formwork provides solution for water tight tanks

DCT Civil Engineering was awarded a £2 million contract to build a sewage detention tank for United Utilities in West Kirby, Merseyside. While pre-cast concrete blocks were used for both the outer tank walls and the central vacuum flush chamber, the client specified an in-situ 250 mm concrete lining to ensure water and air-tightness.

PERI’s lesser known GRV Circular Formwork System was DCT’s natural choice for its ability to form single sided walls without ties or brace frames. Following the initial pour, CB access platforms were assembled and anchored to the newly cast wall to support the formwork. Although this increased the turnaround period of the second cycle, a great deal of time was saved on consecutive pours. Had a ground based scaffold been used each lift would have required continuous adjustment and skilled scaffolders. Instead, a four man team handled all formwork and platform erection and managed to deliver a remarkable one week turnaround period for the 20 m diameter tank.
