What is your role at PERI and how long have you been on the PERI team?

I have been with PERI for just over 2 years and I work as a Sales Engineer for the Infrastructure segment, covering Northern England and Scotland.

What do you like about your role?

I love the social aspect of this role, getting to meet new people every day from all walks of life – labourers on site to directors in office buildings. There is lots of problem-solving to do in this role, which keeps things interesting.

What is the best advice you've received?

One of the first things I got told when I moved into sales was: “Be upfront and honest, the customer would rather know there was a problem early than find out themselves that there’s a problem when it’s too late”.

What is important for you to be successful in your role?

Confidence and self-belief are key. Of course, solid knowledge of products and the industry helps but people buy from people. If you can make a good first impression then you’ll get on great.

What is one goal you're setting for the year?

Get below a 5 handicap in golf – if I can do that, I feel like I can do anything!!!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start in the industry?

I would say the best place to start in this industry would be with the engineering team. It gives you a great insight into how all the systems work. It will also give you the opportunity to interact with customers directly and help to manage their problems on site. If you do well in engineering then it opens the door to most other roles within this industry.
