SONO WZ Concrete Sensor

Fast and precise water content measurement for fresh concrete

With the SONO WC analyzer, the water content of fresh concrete can be quickly and precisely determined on site. Based on innovative TRIME® TDR radar technology, the device supports efficient and simple quality control during concrete production and placement.

The SONO-WZ system consists of a robust, lancehead-shaped probe and a portable measuring instrument that displays results instantly. By taking just four to five readings, users can obtain reliable information on the water content of fresh concrete within one to two minutes — helping ensure consistent mix quality and compliance with specified design parameters.

Compared to traditional testing methods, such as the time-consuming Darr procedure, the PERI SONO-WZ concrete sensor significantly reduces testing effort and waiting times on the jobsite, while improving overall precision and repeatability.

The technology is based on the TDR principle, also called cable radar. In the process, a high-frequency TDR pulse is generated in the device and runs along a probe, building up an electromagnetic field around the TRIME probe. At the end of the conductor, the pulse is completely reflected and travels back to the source. The duration of the impulse along the measuring probe is directly linked to the volumetric water content and thus provides the desired result.

  • The ISC SONO WZ Analyser consists of a measuring probe and a hand-held transmitter with a display. The fresh concrete measurements are carried out in a common plastic bucket.
    Why use it?

The SONO-WZ Concrete Sensor helps prevent cracks and spalling by controlling water content in fresh concrete, protecting reinforcing steel and ensuring long-term durability. It delivers fast, reliable results, with 4-5 measurements providing the water-cement ratio in just 1-2 minutes, saving time compared to traditional methods.

  • With our handheld sensor, you will save time on site when testing water to cement ratio in fresh concrete mixes.
    Reliable on-site quality control

The sensor also supports high concrete performance, optimising the w/c ratio to improve strength, load-bearing capacity, and visual quality. Using innovative TRIME® TDR technology, it ensures consistent, accurate measurements for both on-site and laboratory quality control.

  • The handheld device shows the water content in the fresh concrete with an accuracy of +/- 3 l/m³. The actual w/c ratio can then simply be calculated on the basis of this water content and the cement content (specified in kg on the delivery note).
Easy and simple handling without any time-consuming set-up procedure

Fast measuring thanks to a simple and structured approach - without the need for any elaborate test set-up.
