PERI UK champions engineering talent through commitment to quality, safety, and efficiency

By bringing engineers together via a national engineering conference to share knowledge, celebrate success, and explore smarter ways of working, PERI UK is creating a culture where safety comes first, efficiency drives progress, and every individual, from apprentices to seasoned specialists, has the opportunity to thrive.

A strong focus on quality engineering, safety, and project efficiency – embedded in all of PERI UK’s processes – has enabled the company to become a trusted supplier of formwork, scaffolding, and engineering solutions for more than 35 years.

Building on this foundation, PERI UK continues to invest in training and knowledge-sharing initiatives, most recently bringing together engineers of all experience levels – from long-serving specialists with 30 years at the company to new apprentices who joined in 2025 – for two days of training, best practice sharing, and recognition at a national engineering conference. This is the first time PERI UK has held an event of this kind for its engineering department. With the theme of ‘working safer and working smarter’, the schedule highlighted how innovation and collaboration go hand in hand.

Better, together

Examples include looking forward to automation tools that could potentially cut slab design times by up to two-thirds, freeing engineers to focus on complex, high-value work. Equally, interactive sessions explored how open communication across experience levels can improve safety by ensuring junior engineers feel confident raising questions or concerns.

As the largest department within PERI UK, the engineering team plays a critical role in ensuring projects across the country are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. According to Martin Richardson, technical offices manager at PERI UK, the company’s dedication to internal training and best-practice sharing is essential to maintaining this standard.

“Quality engineering is ultimately about offering protection,” says Martin. “That’s why we embed safety into everything we do. At the same time, efficiency is what keeps projects moving, and that relies on our people having the right tools, training, and confidence to challenge and improve processes.”

“By investing in our engineers, we’re not just delivering for customers, we’re helping colleagues grow, collaborate, and thrive.”

By combining structured training, practical innovation, and a culture of recognition, PERI UK continues to attract, develop, and retain top talent in the industry, whilst maintaining the highest engineering standards.

Positive results

The response from the conference’s attendees was overwhelmingly positive.

“It was great to meet colleagues in person, share insights, and hear more about the projects they’ve been working on,” says formwork designer Zack Lobban. “The event showcased the engineering excellence that drives everything we do — from system updates to new products and tools that will help us design more efficiently. It exceeded all expectations, and I can see the continued value in it becoming a yearly event to keep building growth and stronger connections across the engineering department.”

“As a design manager, my role is not just about delivering drawings safely, it’s about building strong, collaborative and supportive design networks within PERI,” adds technical team leader Paul McGlynn. “The conference allowed our engineers from across the UK and Ireland to get to know each other better and share ideas and see how other offices are approaching similar design challenges.

“In a digital world of Teams meetings, messages, and chats, nothing beats getting everyone together face-to-face and sharing knowledge.

“The experience will ultimately improve and develop even more value to our colleagues and consequently our clients.”

A community of talent

Recognition plays a key role in valuing talent and highlighting the impact of engineers on construction projects.  Engineers across offices were invited to nominate a ‘team member of the year’, a peer seen as supportive, collaborative, and always ready to go the extra mile.

“The nominations showed how much our people value teamwork and trust,” Martin explains, having seen the benefit that the PERI UK sales and management teams had had with their own respective conferences. “We have seen examples of colleagues stepping in to help, sharing knowledge, and making sure no one is left stuck. That culture is what makes PERI UK a great place to work.”

PERI UK’s approach underlines its commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineering leaders while celebrating the expertise of its most experienced professionals. By combining structured training, practical innovation, and a culture of recognition, PERI UK continues to attract, develop, and retain top talent in the industry, whilst maintaining the highest engineering standards.
