Concrete House, developed and owned by Adrian Corrigall, aired on the popular TV series, Grand Designs, on 24th October 2018.
The cast in-situ structure features an exposed concrete finish and varying floor heights throughout. From the onset, it has been a case study for simplifying construction methodologies, whilst also providing a family home. All aspects of the construction process, such as the choice of formwork and the concrete mix, have been experimental.
PERI provided ongoing technical, sales and field support to deliver the architect’s vision of Concrete House. This involved producing accurate technical drawings supplemented by on-site supervision to ensure DUO achieved a consistent tie-hole pattern and panel arrangement across all walls, as well as irregular shapes in some parts of the structure.
DUO was selected for its ability to form all aspects of the concrete structure, including slabs, columns and walls. The versatile system also aligned with Adrian’s vision of reducing waste during construction. All of the raw material is 100% recyclable and can be reused in the production of new panels, which made it a sustainable alternative to using conventional formwork on this project. Due to its light weight, the system also offered logistical benefits. Only three lorries were required to deliver material from PERI’s depot to the site.
